NEW WEBSITE LAUNCH
27/10/2008
BALPA has been working hard on its mission to provide its members and representatives with a new website.
Personalisation is one of the key elements to the new website. Document Management, content management, the updating of membership details, and searching will be just some of the other improved functions.
Many strategic steps have also been taken to provide a much more robust website. The Association has taken out a new hosting package with a new provider, Kingston Communications, which will mean a much more reliable website. The new website has been developed with a specialist and experienced website design agency that will support the website. Also, the old forums will continue to be attached to the new website as a method of reducing any dramatic change on users.. New forums will be introduced 8-10 weeks after the website launch.
On the 3rd of November BALPA will be taking a staged approach:
1) The first step of the change will be the initiation of the domain change. This will allow the URL http://www.balpa.org to be pointed towards our new website. Domain changes do not always take effect immediately and can take anywhere between 4 and 48 hours to allow for caching and propagation.
2) The second step will be preparing the old website and forums to reside on a new address, namely http://forums.balpa.org
The forums will be moved over on the morning of the 3rd of November. Therefore, any posts made on the forums from 0900 on the 3rd of November onwards will NOT appear when the forums are reloaded.
All bookmarks and saved links will cease to function as the old website & forums will begin to reside on the new sub domain 'forums.balpa.org'.
The entire project is a huge step forward for BALPA and whilst there may be some disruption to usual service, the future looks extremely bright for the website.
Should you have any questions during the handover period you can email communications@balpa.org or telephone 020 8476 4028. Alternatively, please take the time to fill in our feedback survey on the new website.
Please also take the time to read our brief guide to the new website and how to use some of the functions.
We hope that the new website proves to be a valuable asset for you.
