BALPA RESPONDS TO EASYJET CUTS
04/09/2009

Commenting on easyJet's announcement of cuts in its operations the British Airline Pilots' Association (BALPA) General Secretary Jim McAuslan said;
'BALPA representatives have been at the relevant bases today to offer support and assistance to the pilots concerned.
'Our aim will be to pressure test the company's decision whilst working with it to ensure that every individual is helped and supported through the upheaval that will result.
'Apart from our focus on helping individuals a major concern in all of this is the refusal of the Spanish operator of Luton Airport to alter its charges to reflect the turmoil in the industry. Everyone in aviation is feeling the pain and the Spanish operator needs to share some of that pain. Their decision will not just impact on pilots and cabin crew but will go right the way through baggage handlers, check-in staff, bus drivers and shop assistants. It will also have a profound effect on the fragile local economy.'
