Commenting on protestors invading the runway at Stansted Airport, Jim McAuslan, General Secretary of the British Airline Pilots' Association (BALPA) said:

'This is irrational. People want to fly certainly but car use is increasing too. Why pick on aviation where few journeys have a practical alternative and not road journeys where there are practical public transport alternatives? And in putting safety and security at risk by invading a busy airport the protestors are living up to the name...plane stupid.'
