Nyumbani Orphanage

About: a special home that cares for HIV positive orphans. They currently provide holistic care to over 100 HIV positive orphans aged nine months to 22 years. Their mission is to provide quality comprehensive care and support to HIV-infected and affected children, families and communities in a sustainable manner

How to get there: take a taxi from anywhere in Nairobi. The Nyumbani home is about 20 kilometres from the centre of Nairobi in a place called ‘Karen’. Most taxi drivers know where they are. Mnazi Moja School
Location:
Mombassa, Kenya

About: the school is situated in one of the shanty towns in Mombassa where people are so poor there is little money to pay for education. The school is vital to the local community and aims to help young people break out of the poverty cycle.

How to get there: Nyali taxi drivers will mostly know where the school is from the main Mombassa crew hotels. The headmaster is Mr Benson Wiya and he can be contacted on +254 (0) 733 862457 or e-mail mnazimojasch2003@yahoo.co.uk, but you don’t need to call ahead, you can just turn up!

What to take: crayons, writing paper, pencils, globes, maps, dictionaries, scrabble sets, simple English books, sports equipment.
