FLYING SCHOLARSHIPS
Normal ALET flying scholarships offer 12 or 15 hours of flying training towards the award of a National Private Pilot's Licence (NPPL). In addition, The Prince Philip Flying Scholarship will be awarded each year to the flying scholar from the previous year who is judged to have made the most progress in their flying, is an exceptional Air Cadet and who has achieved a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and the Joe Wheater Flying Scholarship is for a full NPPL. All the scholarships are funded by industry, by private individuals or by income from endowed funds; around 50 awards are offered each year. Applicants have to be British nationals aged at least 17 but less than 26 years on 1 September in the year of application. They also have to join The Air League. Application forms are available from the League's office from January with a closing date of the end of June for the receipt of completed applications.

FLYING BURSARIES
The flying bursary programme offers between 5 and 8 hours of advanced flying training to PPL holders. The bursaries again are funded by industry and by private individuals. Applicants have to be British nationals and either be or become members of The Air League. Application forms are available from the League's office in January with a closing date of the end of March for receipt of completed applications.

BALLOON PPL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is for a Private Pilot's Licence (Balloons) and is funded by Breitling with training being co-ordinated by Brian Jones. Applicants have to be British nationals aged at least 17 but less than 26 years at the end of April in the year of application, and either be or become members of The Air League. Application forms are available from the League's office in January with a closing date of the end of April for receipt of completed applications.

THE PRINCE PHILIP FLYING SCHOLARSHIP
The Trustees of the Air League Educational Trust (ALET) are pleased to announce the establishment of The Prince Philip Flying Scholarship to celebrate His Royal Highness’s 50 years as Patron of The Air League. The scholarship will provide funding to achieve a National Private Pilot’s Licence.
The scholarship will be awarded each year and will be awarded for the first time in 2003 to the flying scholar from the previous year (i.e. 2002) who is judged to have made the most progress in their flying, is an exceptional Air Cadet and who has achieved a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
