Pilots’ union to highlight ‘brightening job market’ at Flight Crew Futures event

by Wendy Pursey BALPA Head of Membership and Career Services

We all know that in recent years the aviation industry has been battered by COVID-19. Now the industry is recovering and we are seeing increasing positivity when it comes to recruitment. This week we’ll be at the Flight Crew Futures (FCF) event to share the message with pilots, that the future is looking increasingly bright. It’s early days, but there are certainly ‘green shoots’ appearing when it comes to recruitment.

BALPA has always prided itself on being a trusted voice in the industry, a status gained through sharing impartial advice and industry knowledge. We are delighted to be at the FCF event to do just that.

Impartial advice

Over the years our careers experts have attended many of these events and spoken to thousands of pilots who are looking to make the next step in their career. Our message at this event, which is aimed at current pilots, is that there is movement in the market and we are seeing recruitment taking place, particularly for experienced pilots. It is early days on the road to full recovery, but there are opportunities and our experts at BALPA can support members wanting to access them.

Events like this allow BALPA to engage with and support our members at a time when they need our intervention most. Changing your career or embarking on a new one can be very daunting, and this is where we come in, with the resources and expertise to guide our members though the job market.

We have a wealth of resources available, including a dedicated careers area on the BALPA portal and a unique crew connected advisory service. Crew connected is set up by BALPA and powered by members who have volunteered their time to support and offer exclusive advice to our members.

About Flight Crew Futures

The event aims to partner pilots with airlines and recruiting agencies who are specifically looking for type rated flight crew to fill their right and left seats.

There will be informative presentations throughout the day, and the ‘drop-in’ format will also include presentations from recruiters. Each will deliver an overview of their current flight crew requirements, salary packages and employment terms.

The event is a great opportunity to network and this year, recruiters from BA, Tui and easyJet will all be available.

Flight Crew Futures is specifically aimed at:

  • Experienced pilots considering career progression
  • Pilots looking for advice on how they can progress their career to the next step
  • Recently graduated ATPL pilots seeking their first career opportunity
  • Low-hour pilots
  • ‘Frozen’ ATPL pilots
  • Military pilots leaving the forces who are now seeking opportunities in the commercial sector

Entry to Flight Crew Futures is FREE. Simply click here and complete the online registration.

We look forward to seeing you there.
