Culture Commission Announcement
We are pleased to announce that BALPA’s General Secretary and NEC have launched a commission to review our working culture, to be carried out by leading organisational consultant, Laura Harrison.
BALPA’s General Secretary Amy Leversidge said:
“As the professional body for airline pilots, BALPA must be a modern, credible, authoritative voice for the benefit of members, staff and air passengers.
“We are incredibly lucky to have a very engaged and passionate membership that cares deeply about the union and its mission.
“Since I became general secretary in January, I’ve worked with the National Executive Council, staff and elected representatives to secure some significant wins for our members on their pay and working conditions.
“However, while the vast majority of our staff and members uphold the highest levels of professionalism, it is a sad fact that some of this good work has been overshadowed by poor behaviours.
“All organisations need to carry out periodic reviews of their strategy and culture so that they are up to date, fit for purpose and responsive to a changing external environment.
“The commission is an important next step in developing our strengths as a professional association, where we can build on our existing good work, represent members’ interests with authority and credibility and ensure BALPA is a place where all our staff, members and reps feel that they belong.”
Laura Harrison has 30 years’ experience advising professional bodies, trade unions and non-profits to improve their ways of working, and we are delighted to have her independently lead this work.
You can read the terms of reference of the commission here which will give you more information about how the commission will work.
