Charting a Collective Course: BALPA at the 80th IFALPA Conference

We are proud to have attended IFALPA’s 80th conference to join our colleagues from around the globe to focus on the vital theme of positive safety culture, a principle that sits at the very heart of BALPA’s work.

The Conference closed on World Pilots’ Day, a global celebration of the professionalism and dedication of pilots, originally established in Türkiye, by TALPA. Moments like this provide an invaluable opportunity for unions to come together, share knowledge, exchange best practices and learn from each other’s experiences. It was particularly important to discuss positive safety culture, to foster environments where pilots feel empowered to report concerns. Sharing insights and strategies on how to strengthen safety culture helps to ensure that our pilots’ safety is not just a set of rules, but a collective commitment embraced worldwide. Equally critical was the discussions on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) interference and how our pilots can ensure that our flights remain secure and reliable.

It is through these collaborations that we continue to ensure aviation remains the safest mode of transport and that pilots maintain their role as the safety conscience of the industry.

Being able to contribute BALPA’s own insights and expertise, while also learning from others, strengthens the entire aviation community and reinforces the collective commitment to safety. We are particularly grateful to TALPA for hosting this important event and fostering a space where dialogue, collaboration and shared dedication to safety can thrive.

Moments like this remind us that safety is not just a responsibility; it’s a culture that we nurture together. We are looking forward to next year’s conference in Vienna!
