You may be aware of reports regarding an incident involving flight BA919 operating from Dusseldorf to London Heathrow. 

We are aware that this incident has attracted attention, and we want to communicate clearly and directly with you at this stage. 

The crew are in BALPA’s care. 

We are in contact with those involved and are ensuring they have access to the full support and representation that BALPA membership provides. Their welfare is our immediate and unwavering priority. 

The investigation is ongoing. 

A thorough investigation into this incident is currently underway, and it is vital that investigators are given the time and space to carry out their work without interference or premature conclusions. 

Out of respect for the crew and the integrity of the investigative process, we ask all members, commentators and the public to speak with care and compassion, and to avoid speculation. However understandable the search for answers may be, the truth can only come from a thorough and independent investigation. 

For that reason, BALPA will not offer opinions on the cause of this incident at this stage. We place our full trust in the AAIB and the ICAO Annex 13 framework, and we will carefully examine and act on the findings when the official report is published. 

We ask you, as members and as fellow professionals, to do the same. 

BALPA will update members once the official report has been finalised.
