Get S92 checked and back in the skies quickly, says BALPA

The British Airline Pilots’ Association (BALPA) has supported the decision to undertake immediate safety checks on S92 helicopters following an incident last month, but has urged the checks to be done as thoroughly and quickly as possible.

BALPA said that safety is their members’ number one priority and all aircraft should be safe before being allowed to fly, but that getting the North Sea and Search and Rescue fleets fully flying again was also vital.

BALPA General Secretary, Brian Strutton, said:

“We believe the decision to ground the S92 model for checks is sensible and we support it. Clearly the most important thing is ensuring passengers and crew are safe.

“But, we do want to see these checks carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible so that North Sea and Search and Rescue operations can return to normal.”
