BALPA welcomes the announcement of the Operation Blue Skies project
Joji Waites, BALPA Director of Flight Safety, Policy and Regulation:
‘BALPA supports a thriving and sustainable future for UK aviation that provides careers for our members while reducing aviation’s climate impact. By slightly altering vertical flight profiles at the flight planning stage for a very small proportion of all flights, contrail management could offer an opportunity for airlines, pilots, air navigation service providers and air traffic controllers to act as leaders in reducing aviation’s immediate climate impact, as well as for the wider sector to meet its climate goals with minimal impact on the consumer.
BALPA welcomes the announcement of the Operation Blue Skies project – the world’s first air navigation service provider-led oceanic contrail avoidance trial, and we will be monitoring its progress with interest.’
