Culture Commission
When Amy Leversidge was elected as General Secretary in January 2024, one of her priorities was to address BALPA’s culture. As the professional body for pilots, BALPA must be a trusted, credible and authentic voice for our members.
In March 2024, BALPA’s National Executive Council (NEC) agreed to commission an independent review of our culture, and in November that year we announced that Laura Harrison would conduct this review. Ms. Harrison presented her findings to the NEC in August 2025, to the wider rep and staff community from September onwards, and she gave a presentation at our Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) in November.
The report, and the implementation plan, provide a roadmap for BALPA to make the changes needed to develop a strong and successful union. We will achieve this when we rebuild trust by ensuring that:
- Our purpose is shared and strategic
- Our participation is equitable and respectful
- Our processes and decision-making are transparent and based in fairness
Work began on the first stage of the plan in November 2025, along with plans for collaborative development of BALPA’s vision, mission and values in 2026.
